Surfaces should be cleaned with warm water, detergent and a stiff brush. Make sure that any previous surface treatments, pressure treatment residue, mould and algae is removed and rinse well. If your timber has been treated, no basecoat or primer is required. If your timber isn't treated with a preservative then depending on the type of wood and product, you may want to use the Protek Wood Preserver ++ first. If applying a white or light shade wood finish, a Stain Blocking Primer is recommended to prevent the top coat discolouring from possible tannin bleed. Ensure that timber is fully dry, do not apply to wet timber or if rain is expected within 48 hours, or if the temperature is below 5 degrees. Touch dry within 2 hours depending on drying conditions and humidity.
When applied to interior floorboards a top coat of breathable polyurethane sealant or varnish should be applied to protect against heavy foot traffic.
