Weathervanes are traditional weather forecasting tools that point to the direction that the wind is coming from, which is an important factor in determining temperature and probability of rain. In the UK, the prevailing winds are from the west and it is from this direction that the majority of our rain clouds come. Winds from the east tend to be dryer and in the winter, they also tend to be colder. Winds from the north usually lead to colder weather and in the winter, the cold northerly winds often bring snow.
Whilst modern weather forecasting technology has made weathervanes seem obsolete, they are still very popular among amateur forecasters and keen gardeners, whilst they also make an attractive feature in our gardens when attached to pergolas, fence posts or on the roof of a house, garage or shed.
Garden Oasis have a large selection of weathervanes from Poppy Forge, all with free home delivery throughout most of the UK.
