WHICH TO CHOOSE - MAINS ELECTRIC, CORDLESS, OR PETROL STRIMMER?

Gardening is enjoyable, but we all know can also be hard work. Even the best of lawnmowers wont give you an immaculate trimmed edge to your lawn in the same way that a strimmer can. The bigger your lawn, the more work is involved. Strimmers are inexpensive tools, ranging from around £30 for a no frills basic strimmer such as the Flymo Mini Electric Model, and rising in line along with power and extra features available.

CORDLESS BATTERY CHARGED STRIMMERS

Cordless strimmers are slightly more expensive than many mains electric models, but have the advantage that you are not limited by length of cable/extension lead. Many users also prefer not to have trailing cables which can get tangled. Both Bosch and Flymo have excellent models which are on our website. For instance the Bosch ART26ACCU has a fast 1 hour charge time, and can trim 800mtr in one charge. With a detachable wheel, extending handle, 26cm cutting width and 2yr guarantee it should tick all your boxes. So too will the Flymo Contour Cordless 500XT which can trim 2 football size pitches, has a 30 minute use time on one charge, and a side wheel. 

Look for:

• Extending Handle  from 80 - 115 will make it easier for taller users
• Fast charging time
• How far it will trim when charged
• Wheels to make it lighter
• Length of Guarantee
• Cutting width - 25cm is a good standard
• Possible shoulder strap.

MAINS ELECTRIC STRIMMERS

At Garden Oasis we have a large range, at very low prices. The ever popular Flymo models are stocked, and,depending on your budget you will find a mains electric strimmer with features to suit your needs. Choose from:

Power Output 

Starting from 230w for the basic Mini Model, rising through 300w, 500w to 600w. A guide to power is that prices generally rise by approx £10 -£15 per 100w increase. With Flymo, in most cases the model number will indicate the power rating - for instance the Power Trim 500XT has a 500w output.

Weight

The weight generally rises in line with power output, starting at 2.1kg, but even the heaviest models are only 3.6kg, thus putting very little strain on the user.

Cut

Not a wide variation here - 21cm up to 26cm, so even a mid range model won't be short on this feature.

Cord Length

This varies from 5m for the basic Flymo Mini model, up to 12m. The average length is 10 m - generous enough for many modern suburban gardens. Users with larger lawns or no close power supply will need to use an extension lead.

Line Feed - Auto or Manual

All but the basic model have auto line feed, making one less task for you!

Collection Feature

Not  found on the majority of mains powered strimmers, but if it is something which appeals to you, look at the Garden Groom Versa Trim which has an on board collection bag and shredder with ratio 10:1. It will certainly save you the task of sweeping up.
