Sandpits

What are some of our happiest memories of childhood? Old photographs showing Mum or Dad lying on the beach while you busied 'burying' them with sand certainly comes high on many peoples lists.

Those who are lucky enough to live close to the seaside can enjoy the experience of watching young children on the beach, turning out sand castles, decorating them with flags and shells - then sometimes flattening their siblings efforts when their backs are turned! They can make forts, with moats, and fill them with mini plastic soldiers and other toys limited only by their imagination.

Sadly most of us don't live anywhere near enough to the seaside to enjoy this experience except on the annual family holiday, and with the British weather being well, unpredictable, many children will not even have the joy of playing on a British beach.

There is no need to feel sad that your children (or grandchildren) won't have the happy hours of sand play so much a part of the British heritage and of your memory. Our sandpits bring the beach into your back garden. There are various styles, - some have bench tops or seats, and are made up to 1.8m x 1.8m for bigger groups to enjoy.

For even more play appeal we have sandpits in the shape of trains and boats and some that are covered with a canopy to make a wigwam. As well as offering a hideout to play in, the wigwams can provide extra shade when the sun is high.

Clever manufacturing design using geotextile allows the rain water to drain away, but not the weeds to grow in. Included protective covers for when not in use prevent soiling in the sand by pets or other animals, or debris like leaves blowing in. Take off the cover and your sandpit is ready to go!

You are advised to use play sand which is fine grade silica, carefully blended, graded and washed. Builders sand is not safe for use in sandpits.

Just add plastic spades, moulds, flags and small plastic toys. If you provide small plastic watering cans and a bucket of water you may even be lucky enough to get some of your border plants watered!.

Apply plenty of sunscreen, and you will be rewarded with happy, excited children who will play happily while you relax in your garden.
