How many garden paving slabs do you need?
Before you purchase your paving slabs you need to be sure you have the correct volume required. Here's a quick guide to measuring your garden space so you know exactly what you need:
Step 1 – Draw a plan of your garden space
Step 2 – Use string, markers of some kind and mark out the area your garden paving slabs are going to cover
Step 3 – Grab that measuring tape and accurately measure each section you've marked out in the garden. Make a note of the measurements on your drawing.
Step 4 – If your garden is particularly oddly shaped, you may find it difficult to calculate the are from the shape you have in front of you. So, a quick tip, try reducing the drawing to smaller square or oblong shapes. That way, you have smaller areas to calculate where your garden paving slabs are going.
Step 5 – Length multiplied by width equals the area (remember to do it in metres squared. You should now have the total area required.
Step 6 – Know you can calculate the amount of garden paving slabs you need. For example, if your garden paving area is going to be 6m by 4m, that will be an area of 24 metres squared. Change that into millimetres (24 x 1000) which makes 24,000 millimetres. You've decided you want our 300mm by 300mm garden paving slabs. The total area of one paving slab is 900mm (300 x 300), that means you'll need 27 garden paving slabs to cover it (24,000 divided by 900)! However, we do recommend you over order, just in case some get broken or estimates are slightly less than originally measured. |
