The term 'decking' originated from 'the deck of a ship'. Although it has been around for 50 years, it has in more recent years become increasingly popular. In fact it is almost essential for modern homes. This may be because it is an extension of the fashion for wooden and laminate flooring within the home, or simply as an alternative to hard paving and concrete. Decking is able to hide ugly discoloured old slabs negating the need to replace them. The popularity of decking may in part also be because decking can usually be assembled by the householder with some assistance, but without the backbreaking work associated with slab laying.
